Description
Jupiter was only 50 degrees off the horizon instead of the 70 degrees when culminating on the meridian, but the images were sharp! Jupiter just sat steady on my monitor and focusing was easy! Dedication pays off again!Besides the GRS and the shadow of Io crossing the disk, if you look closely, you can also see the small, bright disk of Io (spacecraft image attached) following just behind its shadow. Since the seeing was so good, I took 33 videos (!) to document Io exiting the disk. Jupiter delivers a great show again! Don't forget to examine all the other features visible. See the attached diagram for help in identifying features.
Since I took so many images, over 2 hours' worth, you can see how much Jupiter rotates in that short time. It takes less than 10 hours to go around once. For more info on the Solar System's largest planet, go here: Jupiter: A guide to the largest planet in the solar system | Space
These are 3 of the best images (there are so many it was hard to decide) as well as an animation using all 33 images.
