M27 - NGC 6853 - The Dumbbell Nebula

Messier 27 (M27) is commonly referred to as the Dumbbell Nebula. It is a Planetary Nebula in the constellation Vulpecula. M27 is located about 1,250 light years from earth and is approximately 1.44 light years in diameter. It was discovered by Charles Messier in 1764 and was the first planetary nebula ever identified.
